20 Northern California Cities Make List Of 100 Best Places To Live In U.S.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - California is a great place to live and Northern California is even better according to a new survey.

On a list of the best 100 places to live in the U.S., a quarter of them are in California and most are in the Bay Area.

Livability.com looked at community amenities, education, sustainability, transportation and housing to determing which American cities would make the cut for their annual list of Top 100 Best Places To Live.

Palo Alto made the number 6 spot thanks to its free high-speed Internet, parks, open spaces and unique restaurants. The city also boasts top-notch schools according to the survey.

Walnut Creek (11), San Mateo (12) and Santa Cruz (19) weren't far behind.

Other Northern California cities on the 2016 list were San Luis Obispo (29), Davis (30), Menlo Park (45), Pleasanton (54), Monterey (58), Santa Rosa (63), Petaluma (65), San Rafael (67), Napa (68), Novato (73), Mountain View (77), Redwood City (83), Fremont (84), Berkeley (85), and Santa Clara (97).

The top spot went to Rochester, Minnesota.
