56-Year-Old Man Dies In Head-On Collision In Contra Costa County

SAN PABLO (CBS SF) -- A man died Friday evening when his vehicle collided head-on with another vehicle in unincorporated Contra Costa County.

Around 5:20 p.m., CHP officials received a report of a collision on San Pablo Dam Road, at Tri Lane, according to CHP officials.

The victim, who was driving a 2003 Cadillac, had been traveling west on San Pablo Dam Road at about 45 miles per hour.

For an unknown reason the driver traveled into the eastbound lane and collided-head on with a 2003 Mitsubishi that was traveling east, CHP officials said.

The driver in the Cadillac, a 56-year-old Lafayette resident, died as a result of the collision, according to CHP officials.

The driver of the Mitsubishi and her three passengers all sustained minor to moderate injuries and were taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, CHP officials said.

Detectives are investigating the crash. It is unclear if alcohol or drugs were a factor, according to CHP officials.
