Volunteering At Yosemite Offers A Range Of Opportunities

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK (KPIX 5) Volunteers do everything in Yosemite National Park from assisting visitors to researching wildlife. A quick check of recent opportunities shows openings listed online for camp hosts, conservation educators, and volunteers for a new component of the Preventive Search and Rescue: training visitors about the dangers of recreation activities to help prevent mishaps.

You can volunteer as an individual or as part of a group. Form your own group, or join one that is forming to take on a project. Groups tackle vegetation restoration, trail building, and wildlife protection. The National Park Service keeps a catalog of group projects online.

Some volunteers even live in the park while they're working. Or, for willing volunteers who do not live close to Yosemite and can't travel, there are some "virtual" opportunities to do clerical work online.

There are also special projects that happen for just a day or several days at certain times of the year, like the annual Yosemite Facelift cleanup or Earth Day.
