Free Cannabis Products Offered To Valley, Butte Fire Victims

(CBS SF) -- Victims of the Valley Fire and Butte Fire are being offered free cannabis products if they have current prescriptions for medical marijuana.

Healdsburg-based Care By Design and AbsoluteXtracts, makers of marijuana-related products such as cannabis oils, sprays and vaporizing cartridges, announced the companies are donating $20,000 to patients who lost access to their medicine because of the fires.

The fires destroyed more than 1,500 homes and burned more than 140,000 acres of land. Five people were killed.

"This disaster happened in our own backyard," said the companies in a joint statement. "As a company that prides itself on putting patient needs first, we felt there was no better time to reach out and help our neighbors in their time of need."

The companies said they would give patients who were affected in the wildfire up to $200 in free cannabis products over the next week.

The products would be available through October 7 to residents of Cobb, Kelseyville, Middletown and Hidden Valley Lake at dispensaries in Santa Rosa, Sebastopol and San Francisco.
