7 Pinole Valley High Students Treated After Taking Xanax

PINOLE (KPIX 5) -- At least seven students at Pinole Valley High School were treated after taking the prescription drug Xanax Thursday.

Five of the students had to be hospitalized.

A spokesperson for the school district said a call went out for emergency help after school workers noticed several students acting strangely.

"There was a bunch of officers got here, and the fire department and ambulances, and a couple kids were taken into a classroom, apparently under the influence of drugs.  Some sort of drug like Xanax, I think it was.  So, I'm not sure how they were caught, but they were taken care of," student Geno Ortega said.

Ambulances took the five students to the hospital.  Their conditions were unknown.

The two other students were taken home by their parents.

It's unclear where the students obtained the drugs, or if anyone has been arrested.
