Elizabeth Banks Says 'Yes' To Direct 'Pitch Perfect 3'

(CBS SF) - The Barden Bellas are back and this time Elizabeth Banks is definitely making a return to the directors chair for 'Pitch Perfect 3.' On Tuesday, Universal Pictures confirmed Banks' will take the reigns on the third film of the competitive acapella film series.

"Pitch Perfect 2" marked Banks' first time as a full-length feature director. The film grossed close to $300 million worldwide. With that much success, the idea of Banks' return back to the directors chair for another go-around was left unclear come time for the studio to greenlight the third film. However, Banks and her husband were locked-in as producers.

Writer for the first two films, Kay Cannon is expected to return for the third film to write the screenplay. Also returning are stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow and of course, Elizabeth Banks.

"Pitch Perfect 3" is schedule to hit theaters August 4, 2017
