SJ Man Shoots Himself In Foot, Bullet Goes Through Floor, Hits Boy Downstairs

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- San Jose police were investigating a shooting Wednesday morning in which a man shot himself in the foot and sent the round through the floor striking a 9-year-old neighbor boy downstairs.

Officers responded at 5:46 a.m. to a report of someone shot in the 1900 block of Almaden Road, according to police.

"When we arrived, we found the nine year old boy who had been shot in the leg with a non fatal injury," said San Jose Police Lt. Mike King.

The upstairs neighbor and the boy were both taken to a hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds that are considered serious but not life-threatening, police said.

"We need to determine the intent, whether this was accidental or if there was some reason the person was firing the weapon," King said.

No other information about the shooting was immediately available Wednesday morning.

The shock of the shooting brought neighbors to tears.

"I just can't believe this is happening," said neighbor and family friend Susan Cisneros.

Cisneros said there have been violence incidents between the neighbors in that upstairs apartment in past, but nothing like this.

"I don't know if one thing led to another and then all of a sudden there is a gun and now someone is hurt because of that," she said.
