Bay Area Homeowners Hoping To Cash In From Super Bowl 50 Rentals
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- In less than 100 days, Super Bowl 50 makes its way to the Bay Area and lots of people are already looking for ways to cash in.
Emily Benkert runs Guesthop.com, a website that helps people manage their rentals on places like Airbnb and VRBO. It's likely to get a lot of traffic during the first week in February when Levi's Stadium hosts the Super Bowl.
"It's the single largest annual sporting event in the world and when that happens, hotels sell out," said Keith Bruce with the Super Bowl 50 host committee.
He said if you want to host some of those people looking for a place to stay, be his guest.
"If you got a house and you want to rent it out, go for it."
Ian McHenry's website Beyond Pricing helps people and companies charge for stuff in the travel business.
"We're recommending for people right now to increase about 80 percent above [regular pricing] so for three bedrooms it's going for like $800 or so," he said.
That's a deal compared to hotel prices in the area.

"America's Best Value Inn in Sunnyvale is $1,100 a night," McHenry said.
While the South Bay has the game, San Francisco has most of the events.
Benkert's place in Bernal Heights will certainly be marked up.
"Well you've really got about $250 a night -- during the Super Bowl I'm sure we will be booking it for over $400."
But it's wise to do your research first before assuming you'll make a lot of money renting out your place.
"I wouldn't book your trip to the Carribean yet," McHenry said.
