San Jose Restaurant Linked To Shigella Outbreak Reopens

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — A  local restaurant linked to a bacterial infection that sickened nearly 200 people has reopened.

Marisco's San Juan No. 3 in San Jose reopened Thursday after getting an all-clear from the Santa Clara County Department of Environmental Health.

The agency said an inspection turned up no risk to public health. Officials say the restaurant had sanitized its facilities and retrained employees on proper food handling methods.

The downtown restaurant was closed on Oct. 18 after officials linked an outbreak of shigella to people who'd dined there. Several people had to be hospitalized but nobody died.

Authorities say they may never determine the exact source of the outbreak. They say one employee who had the bacteria probably got it from eating the restaurant food.
