SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) — California is the latest state with a case of E. coli linked to Chipotle.

Most of the cases have been in the northwest until now. Ohio and New York are also reporting people getting sick after eating at the high-end burrito chain.

The source of the contamination is unclear, but Centers for Disease Control says it likely wasn’t the meat because some of the people who got sick are vegetarians.

There is speculation that a single contaminated ingredient went to several restaurant locations.

At least 16 people have been hospitalized, but no one has died.
