Man Wanted In Killing Of Watsonville Toddler Arrested in Mexico

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS-SF) -- A man wanted for his alleged participation in a shooting that killed a 4-year-old Watsonville girl has been arrested in Mexico by the FBI working in conjunction with Mexican law enforcement officials, federal authorities announced Wednesday.

The FBI says that Brandon Ruiz Martinez was located and arrested in the city of Zinapecuero, Mexico, on Tuesday night.

Martinez was deported to the United States early Wednesday where the FBI turned custody of him over to Watsonville police detectives.

He was the last fugitive out of eight suspects to be arrested and charged in connection to the shooting which occurred at a motel in Watsonville on October 10, 2014.

Marcos Robles and Samantha Teran, both 23-year-old Watsonville residents, were arrested at a hotel room in Guadalajara in early October 2015.

Teran is Robles' girlfriend, according to police, and she's considered an accessory after the murder.

Robles allegedly shot and killed rival gang member 33-year-old Ramon Rendon in the parking lot of the Valley Inn Motel, 970 Main St. in Watsonville Oct. 10, 2014, according to the FBI.

Jaelyn Zavala, 4, and 26-year-old Emanual Hernandez were both struck by stray bullets in a nearby restaurant. Zavala died from her injuries.
