SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Police are asking for help in finding a prized 19th century violin stolen from a vehicle in San Francisco’s Fillmore District.

The instrument is a George Craske violin, made in the 1800s. Violins made by Craske are valued in the $10,000 to $15,000 range.

San Francisco police said the violin – along with a Fedriksson Bow valued at $4,000 and a $3,500 BAM Hightech Slimline violin case – were stolen on the evening of November 20 from a vehicle parked on the 1300 block of Webster St.

Aside from its value, the violin also holds great sentimental value to the victim and family, police said.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the police department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444, or text to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
