Salinas Man Finds His Dog Severely Beaten After Arriving Home

SALINAS (CBS SF) – Police in Salinas are investigating an animal cruelty incident after a resident came home Thursday to find one of his dogs so badly beaten, the dog had to be euthanized.

The resident came home around 4 p.m. to find one of his dogs in the front yard and the side gate open to his backyard, police said.

He went into his backyard, saw a large amount of blood and then discovered his pit bull had been severely beaten.

The dog had two broken legs, lacerations to his jaw and a large amount of tissue torn from his mouth.

The man rushed the dog to the vet, but the animal's injuries were so severe, the dog had to be euthanized.

Police said the motive for the attack isn't known, but it is possible a suspect entered the yard with the intention of burglarizing the residence and was confronted by the dog.
