Pedestrian Struck And Killed While Crossing Freeway In San Jose

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday night on the southbound Interstate 280 connector ramp to southbound U.S. Highway 101 in San Jose.

The pedestrian was struck by a 1999 Honda and was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision was first reported at 8:19 p.m.

The victim is a 65-year-old man, according to the CHP. His identity has not been released. The CHP believes the victim may have been a transient, walking to a homeless camp nearby.

Alcohol does not appear to have played a factor in the collision, according to the CHP.

The incident closed two lanes of the connector for about two hours.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the collision.
