MILPITAS (CBS SF) — A Milpitas police dispatcher was taken into custody in Tracy Thursday for possession of child pornography, according to authorities.

On January 14, Milpitas Police Dispatcher Daniel Palmer was arrested in Tracy. Palmer has been a dispatcher for the Milpitas Police Department since 2001.

Palmer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending further investigation.

In a press release, the Milpitas Police Department said it “is saddened and shocked by these allegations.”

Milpitas police are cooperating fully with the Tracy Police Department in the investigation, the release said.

Palmer received the “Dispatcher of the Year” award in 2010.
