Trader Joe's Recalls Packaged Cashew Pieces Over Salmonella Fears

MONROVIA, Los Angeles County (CBS SF) -- Fears of salmonella contamination has led specialty grocery store chain Trader Joe's to recall a packaged cashew product across 30 states.

The Southern California-based company said on its website it was alerted by a supplier that one lot of its Raw Cashew Pieces may be contaminated with salmonella.

The barcode number of the affected lot is 00505154 and the words "BEST BEFORE 07.17.2016TF4" on the label.

The cashews were sold at Trader Joe's stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Washington D.C. and Wisconsin.

There have been no illenesses reported because the cashew pieces and Trader Joe's said it was recalling the item out of an abundance of caution.

Consumers were urged to discard the product or to return it to Trader Joe's for a full refund.
