Woman In Wheelchair Dies After Struck By San Francisco City Vehicle

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A 38-year-old woman in a motorized wheelchair was struck by a city vehicle on San Francisco's Market Street on Friday morning and died at a hospital a day later, according to police and the medical examiner's office.

The woman, identified by the medical examiner's office as Berkeley resident Thu Phan, was hit by a city-owned vehicle turning left from northbound Seventh Street onto westbound Market Street at about 10 a.m. Friday, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

Phan was taken to a hospital, where she was conscious and talking, Esparza said. However, she died there on Saturday, according to the medical examiner's office.

Esparza said he did not know what city department was associated with the vehicle that struck Phan. No other information about the collision was immediately available from police.
