Beyonce Super Bowl Backup Dancers Hold, Pose With 'Justice 4 Mario Woods' Sign

SANTA CLARA (KCBS) – Following the Super Bowl 50 halftime show, some of Beyonce's backup dancers were seen holding up a sign reading "Justice 4 Mario Woods," referencing the man killed by San Francisco police late last year.

A video of the dancers with the sign at Levi's Stadium was posted on the Black Lives Matter Twitter page shortly after halftime. Beyonce was not in the group's video.

The dancers were dressed in black with black berets for the show and at one point during the performance, held their fists high in solidarity with the Black Panthers and the Black Lives Matter movement.

The political statement didn't come as a surprise. Beyonce had released a video of her new single "Formation" on Saturday that featured graffiti reading "stop shooting us."

Woods was fatally shot during a confrontation with police in the Bayview District on December 2nd. Last week, the Department of Justice announced they would review the department's practices in the wake of the shooting.
