Where Is El Niño? SJSU Climate Professor Says Rain To Return Soon

SAN JOSE (KPIX 5) – While a strong start to the rainy season has given way to an extended dry spell and record warmth, a climate professor said the wet conditions typical of an El Nino winter will return.

Alison Bridger, a professor of meteorology and climate science at San Jose State, told KPIX 5 that El Nino is still influencing weather patterns on the West Coast.

"We always have a mild spell in February, it lasts for 1 or 2, maybe even 3 weeks, and then It'll get cool and rainy again," Bridger said. "In fact, I'm telling all my friends, 'Enjoy it while you can.'"

Bridger confirmed there has already been substantially more rain this winter than expected. The professor said once the rain comes again, conditions could be wet until April.
