New Express Lanes Coming To I-580 In Tri-Valley Area

DUBLIN (CBS SF) -- New express lanes are slated to open on Highway 580 in the Tri-Valley area later this month.

Single occupants will have to pay to drive in those lanes, and decide if it's worth the price.

The lanes are specially designated lanes created to improve the commute through Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore in eastern Alameda County.  Tess Lengyel with the Alameda County Transportation Commission, explains the lanes will span about 14 miles.

The price will be dynamic between the hours of 5 am and 9 pm, meaning the price is higher when there are more cars on the road. There are areas for cars to enter and exit the lanes, and each lane will have a number of zone.

Maximum toll rates for eastbound drivers will be $9, and $13 for westbound drivers, with a minimum of 30 cents per zone.

Drivers must have FasTrak, and Flex FasTrak allows for the most efficient pricing.

The first eastbound lane starts at Hacienda.

The westbound lanes will go from Greenville to San Ramon, and will open later this month.
