Thousands Line The Streets Of SF For Chinese New Year Parade

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Some 750,000 people lined the streets of the parade route in San Francisco, to ring in the Year of the Monkey.

Spectacular floats, school marching bands, and celebrities got in on the fun this year. There was plenty of firepower on the streets, as well. Some 600,000 firecrackers dazzled and delighted onlookers.

Organizers spend almost three-quarters of the year preparing for the parade.

"You know we have over 200 people just working as parade volunteers to make sure this parade works," said parade director Wayne Hu.

This is the biggest Lunar New Year parade outside of Asia.
