Swimmer Rescued From Ocean Beach By Coast Guard

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- One person was rescued out of the ocean by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter at San Francisco's Ocean Beach this afternoon, a fire department spokesman said.

Around 2 p.m., fire crews responded to a report of a person in the ocean needing assistance near Lincoln Way and the Great Highway, according to San Francisco fire spokesman Jonathan Baxter.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew that was conducting training nearby responded to the incident, deploying a swimmer who was able to safely get the male victim out of the water and assist him to shore, Baxter said.

The victim suffered injuries not considered life-threatening and fire crews treated him at the scene. He was then transported to St. Mary's Medical Center, according to Baxter.
