Two Injured When Car Slams Into Richmond District Apartment Building

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A driver lost control of his vehicle in San Francisco's Richmond District Thursday afternoon, striking a pedestrian and crashing into the side of a building, according to authorities.

The incident happened around 2:15 p.m. at 46th Ave. and Fulton Street. in the city's Outer Richmond. An elderly man driving his car westbound on Fulton somehow lost control of his vehicle.

The car hit a pedestrian on the sidewalk, a male in his 20s, before plowing into an apartment building. The pedestrian and the driver both sustained injuries and were transported to an area hospital.

The San Francisco Fire Department originally said it involved a Muni bus, but it was determined later a Muni bus had stopped after the crash and one or more persons aboard the bus provided aid.

Marilla Pulido, a resident in the apartment building, said the collision frightened her. She was on the other side of the wall when the car hit the building.

"I was working on my laptop right there and I set her right down here," Pulido said, indicating her infant daughter Dalia as she started crying. "See? She doesn't want to sit here anymore."

The jolt of the car's impact was so strong it pushed the couch her daughter was on away from the wall.

"We scooted it out a little bit, but it definitely moved," explained Pulido. "I picked her up and ran out of the house because I kept thinking, 'What's next?'  You don't know if the wall is going to collapse. Is it an earthquake?  You don't know in those first couple of seconds."
