'Yosemite National Park' Souvenirs Pulled Amid Naming Dispute

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK (KCBS) – T-shirts and other souvenirs that read "Yosemite National Park" are being pulled from the park's gift shops amid an ongoing trademark battle.

Souvenir items sold at the park will now only read "Yosemite."

Delaware North, the park's outgoing management company, said it owns the name "Yosemite National Park" for commercial purposes.

A new company will take over running Yosemite's hotels, restaurants and outdoor activities on March 1st. Park officials said the Ahwahnee Hotel and Curry Village will also change names on that date.

"When people say it's the principal that matters, it's usually about the money," Professor Robin Feldman, director of the Institute for Innovation Law at UC Hastings College of the Law, told KCBS. "My guess is that the problem is the disagreement over the value of the concession rights."

The fight over the names at the park has been going on for two years.
