SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — Tuesday is a big day for outdoor enthusiasts in California, as the online reservations opened for securing a campsite this summer.

Some of the sites are expected to be booked up by the end of the day.  Last year, the cabins at Rocky Point on the Marin coast were gone within minutes.

“You feel more free. You feel more relaxed. There’s more time. There’s more space.  You can really do what you want to do, instead of feeling like you’re obliging society’s rules, so to speak,” James Taylor with REI said.

Those in the know say the National Forest campgrounds are what provide the best availability throughout the summer.
