San Ramon Bank Robbery Suspect Pulls Off Daytime Heist

SAN RAMON (CBS SF) -- Authorities are looking for a man who robbed a Wells Fargo branch at a grocery store in San Ramon on Wednesday afternoon, a police detective said.

The robbery occurred around 3 p.m. inside Nob Hill Foods at 130 Market Place, San Ramon police Detective Michael Pistello said.

A man went up to a clerk at the bank branch inside the supermarket and presented a demand note in which he claimed to have a firearm, Pistello said.

Although no gun was seen, the clerk surrendered an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect, who left the building and fled in an unknown direction, Pistello said.

Pistello described the suspect as a black man in his late 20s who stands at 5 feet 7 inches and weighs 170 pounds.

The man, who was captured on surveillance footage, was wearing dark sunglasses, a white T-shirt and black basketball shorts. Pistello said he also had what appeared to be a white towel around his neck.

Anyone with potential information on the suspect or the robbery is asked to call San Ramon police at (925) 973-2779.
