K-9 Finds Discovery Bay Burglary Suspect Hiding In Doghouse

DISCOVERY BAY (CBS SF) -- A K-9 turned up a burglary suspect hiding in a doghouse after a citizen reported seeing two people break into a home Thursday afternoon in the unincorporated Contra Costa County community of Discovery Bay, deputies said.

A citizen reported the burglary at 2:37 p.m. in the 3600 block of Sailboat Drive.

Deputies arrived to find two men running away from the home and were able to detain one of them, sheriff's officials said.

A resident then told deputies someone went into the backyard of a home on Foghorn Way. A K-9 found the person hiding in a doghouse.

Three people were arrested in the incident and deputies recovered the stolen property, according to sheriff's officials.

Deputies arrested 19-year-old Richmond resident Marshawn Daniels. Daniels was booked into the county jail on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and violating his probation, sheriff's officials said. He was caught running from deputies.

Also arrested was 24-year-old Cortez Barber who was booked into the county jail on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and violating his probation. He was found in the doghouse and is being held without bail, sheriff's officials said.

Richmond woman Shante Lewis, 26, was booked into the county jail on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools.

Lewis was in a vehicle nearby when deputies questioned her and determined she helped the two men, Contra Costa County sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said. Also, a warrant was out for her arrest.

Lewis is being held on $230,000 bail.
