New Video Shows West Oakland BART Shooting Suspect

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – BART Police on Wednesday went public with an enhanced surveillance video clip showing the suspect in the January fatal shooting at the West Oakland BART station.

Authorities released the video that shows the suspect walking through the Pittsburg/Bay Point BART station earlier on the day of the shooting in the hopes that someone will recognize him.

On Saturday, January 9, at approximately 7:40 p.m., 19-year-old Hispanic male victim Carlos Misael Funez-Romero was fatally shot multiple times on a San Francisco-bound BART train stopped at West Oakland Station.

The shooting brought transit through the Transbay Tube to a near standstill for hours.

Almost 10 days after the shooting,  BART officials announced that the victim and the suspect had an interaction on a Tri Delta Bus before the two eventually boarded a West Oakland-bound BART train.

The suspect has been at large since the shooting.

Police are continuing to following up on other leads, but hoped the new video showing how the suspect walks and maneuvers might help identify him.

The suspect is described as a black male, 6'0" to 6'4" tall, with a bald/shaved/or close cut hair style, slim build, and was wearing a green hooded jacket with beige, construction-style boots.

Anyone who thinks they know who the suspect is or has any information about the homicide is encouraged to call BART Police. BART is offering a reward of up to $10,000.00 through Oakland Crime Stoppers for any information that may help lead to an arrest.

The monetary reward will be provided if a tip leads to an arrest of the murder suspect.

The direct number for leaving an anonymous tip is 510-464-7011. BART investigators can also be reached at 510-464-7040; Oakland Crime Stoppers can be reached at 510-777-8572.
