Coroner IDs Body Found At Half Moon Bay Beach As Missing Brisbane Man

HALF MOON BAY (CBS SF) --The San Mateo County Coroner's Office has confirmed that a body that washed up at a Half Moon Bay beach earlier this month is that of Michael Dwyer, a 25-year-old Brisbane man who was reported missing last month.

Dwyer's body washed up at Half Moon Bay State Beach on March 9, according to the coroner's office. His family reported him missing on Feb. 29 after he had not returned home after a visit to the beach.

California State Parks officials located Dwyer's 2004 Jeep Wrangler parked near Half Moon Bay State Beach's Venice Beach, sheriff's officials said.

Earlier that day, around 1:30 p.m., a witness reported seeing a man enter the water near Dunes Beach located on Young Avenue, according to the sheriff's office.

The witness reported that the person had been swept out to sea by ocean currents and never came out of the water.

The report prompted an extensive air and sea search involving a helicopter, two lifeboats and various law enforcement units.
