Major Redesign For 2017 iPhone May Be Reason To Put Off That Upgrade

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Apple iPhone users may want to wait until next year to upgrade. A major redesign is anticipated in 2017 that will make this year's iPhone SE look like last year's news, according to KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The industry analyst sent a note to investors describing the new iPhone's design, inside and out. The next-generation device will measure 5.8 inches and have curved glass panels on the front and back. A narrow bezel-design will offer a more "comfortable grip" says Kuo. Apple will also introduce its first AMOLED display. That's the same display technology currently used in many Nokia and Samsung phones. AMOLED has a wider range of color options than the old LCD display, resulting in more vibrant images.

More new options include facial recognition, and wireless charging.

No word as to how much the new revamped iPhone will cost. Whatever its price point, this radical redesign may be well worth waiting for.

Kuo is an analyst for KGI Securities, a financial services group with offices in Taiway, Hong Kong, China, Thailand and Singapore. According to MacRumors, his predictions "are accurate enough to make him one of the most reliable sources for Apple rumors."
