Suspect In Concord Boy's Shooting Gunned Down By Police In Fairfield

FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) -- A man suspected in a drive-by shooting that wounded an 8-year-old boy in Concord Friday has been shot in a confrontation with police in Fairfield Monday.

Fairfield Police said the department received a tip from a citizen that James Jarrard, the suspect in the boy's shooting, was in a business parking lot in the 3400 block of North Texas Street in Fairfield.

Officer arrived to find the Jarrard and he immediately ran from officers, police said. According to a statement from Fairfield Police, "Officers pursued the suspect which resulted in an Officer Involved Shooting on the east side of the business."

It was not clear what prompted police to open fire on Jarrard. Fairfield Police said no other information about the shooting was immediately available.

The 32-year-old Concord resident was taken to a trauma center in critical condition. He was being sought in connection with the boy's shooting Friday evening on the 2900 block of La Salle Ave. in Concord.

The boy was shot in the neck but was expected to survive his injuries.
