Rodgers Creek Fault More Accurately Traced Through Part Of Santa Rosa
SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- Scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey now have a better idea of where exactly the Rodgers Creek Fault runs.
For the first time, they've traced it through the central part of Santa Rosa, east of downtown.
"Now we know that it's broader than we assumed in the past - so that just tells us that there's a surface faulting hazard. So, next time there's a large earthquake on this part of the fault, we know a little bit more accurately where the fault might move at the surface," USGS Geologist Suzanne Hecker said.
Geologists also discovered an area of high-density rock below the ground surface on the east side of the fault.

That means a large earthquake there has the potential to intensely shake the ground under Santa Rosa.
