Authorities Investigate First Homicide In Castro Valley This Year

CASTRO VALLEY (CBS SF) -- The Alameda County Sheriff's Department is investigating the first homicide of the year in Castro Valley after an overnight shooting.

The incident happened at around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night on Lake Chabot Road. Authorities received a 911 call from a friend of the victim.

Officers found one person shot in the head at a medical office building. The victim was taken to nearby Eden Hospital where he died at 4:45 a.m.

"This is a medical office building. There really is no reason for someone to be back here at 10:30 at night," said Alameda Co. Sheriff's Department Sgt. Ray Kelly. "So we're looking into seeing whether this is a robbery, whether there was some type of drug transaction that was going on that went wrong, or was this a specific targeted victim."

On Monday morning, investigators were canvassing the area behind Eden Hospital, even using drones to look for additional evidence.

Witnesses told authorities that they saw two suspects leaving the area. The Sheriff's Department is looking into available surveillance footage since the incident happened in the Eden Hospital corridor and a number of facilities in the area have surveillance cameras.
