Lucky Oakland Teen Gets Tickets To Warriors' Season Closer From Draymond Green
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- An Oakland teenager is looking forward to attending Wednesday night's historic Warriors game at Oracle Arena thanks to the generosity of Golden State star Draymond Green.
McClymonds High School senior Dyllon Louis is an outstanding football player, but he's a huge fan of basketball, the Warriors and Draymond Green. Wednesday night will be his first NBA game ever.
And, just like the rest of Dub Nation, Dyllon is hoping he'll see the Warriors set a new NBA record for the most regular-season wins. If the team beats the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, they will pass the record set by the Chicago Bulls during the team's landmark 1995-96 season.
The teen's entry into the Warriors season-ending game all started with a tweet.
Knowing how expensive ticket prices are, Green wanted to give three kids from Oakland a chance to see the big game from inside Oracle Arena.
"What I said in that tweet, I meant from the heart," Green told the media Tuesday. "Give these kids the chance to witness history."
So the Warriors got in touch with McClymonds High School and asked them to find students who had an interesting story. Dyllon wrote an essay about his story and it struck a chord.
Dyllon, his brother and his mother went through some extremely hard times when Hurricane Katrina destroyed their home.
"Even though it was a horrific time, I wouldn't change it for anything," said Dyllon. "When you experience something that tragic, it makes you think of life and makes sure you don't want to do anything in life to be put you in that situation and go to jail or any of that."
The family relocated to West Oakland a couple years ago. Dyllon has thrived at McClymonds High, where he is a star linebacker on the football team with a 3.73 GPA.
"My mother said I couldn't play football unless I had a 3.0 GPA," explained Dyllon. "I really wanted to play football, so I just spent a lot of time hitting the books and making sure that my grades were up to par so I could be able to play."
According to reports, the other two area students who received tickets were Travon Hadnot of Dewey Academy and Joseph Martin of Coliseum College Prep.
For Wednesday night, Dyllon's advice for his favorite player Draymond is minimal.
"Really, he's just gotta play his game and then they'll win, basically," said Dyllon.
Dyllon and his guest got some great seats. The two tickets in Section 124, Row 22 would be worth about $1,100 on the resale market.
Dyllon told KPIX 5 some Division II and III colleges are recruiting him for football. He is hoping to make a decision on where he goes soon. After that, he wants to open his own computer science company.
