Sharks Fans Stuck On Caltrain For Hours After Overtime Loss
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – After the San Jose Sharks lost to the Los Angeles Kings in their playoff game Monday night, fans who took Caltrain experienced additional frustration after their train encountered problems.
The game at SAP Center ended around 10:30 p.m., with the Sharks losing 3-2 in overtime.
After the game, train NB199 heading northbound from Diridon Station in San Jose had issues near the Lawrence Station in Santa Clara, about seven miles away, according to CaltrainStatus, an account where riders report delays on the system.
The transit agency's official Twitter page first posted about the problem around midnight and apologized soon after. According to Caltrain, the train became stuck due to engine failure.
Even with the apology, Sharks fans took to Twitter to complain as they waited.
It was nearly 1 a.m., more than two hours after the game ended, before passengers reportedly arrived in the next northbound station in Sunnyvale.
It is unclear when the train arrived at its final destination in San Francisco, but a timetable on the Caltrain website shows NB199 is expected to complete the journey between Sunnyvale and San Francisco in 1 hour and 20 minutes.
One fan pledged to drive to Wednesday night's Game 4 against the Kings.
Despite Monday night's loss, the Sharks still hold onto a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Game 4 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
