DAYTON, OH (AP) – Actor and filmmaker Tom Hanks will help dedicate a newly renovated motion pictures center named for him and mingle with students among events at a college in southwest Ohio.

Wright State University says Hanks will take part Tuesday in a fundraising gala and talk with current theater, dance and motion picture students. He'll also appear at several private events.

The Oscar-winning star of "Philadelphia" and "Forrest Gump" is not an alumnus of Wright State, but he has long ties to the public school and connections with teachers and alumni. He's national co-chair of a major fundraising campaign for the school near Dayton.

He performed at the university with a Shakespeare company in the 1970s.
