(CBS SF) – A teenage boy in Ohio has died after authorities said he tried to perform an electrical experiment he saw online.

CBS affiliate WOIO-TV reported that 15-year-old Morgan Woceichowski of Vermilion, a town about 45 miles west of Cleveland, was electrocuted Tuesday night.

Authorities said the teen apparently tried to replicate an experiment he saw on YouTube called "Jacob's Ladder," which involves high voltage electricity jumping between two points.

Morgan was taken to a taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In a written statement, the superintendent of Morgan's school said in part, "Morgan was a vibrant student and athlete who was well liked at Vermilion High School. Our thoughts and prayers are with Morgan's family, and we continue to be available for anything they need."

According to The Associated Press, the teen tried the experiment while his family was at home. Officials said the experiment was not a school assignment.
