Country Artist Chris Stapleton Memorialized Prince At Berkeley Concert
BERKELEY (CBS SF) – As one of country music's most talented artists, Chris Stapleton has made a name for himself as a hitmaker for other artists like Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan and Darius Rucker. But when news of the untimely death of R&B singer & musician Prince made it's way to the Kentucky native, Stapleton had to break from his Greek Theater performance to honor the music icon.
During Stapleton's April 23rd Berkeley show, the Grammy Award-winner gave warning on his attempt to cover "Nothing Compares 2 U," the same song made famous by Sinead O'Connor in 1990 and written by Prince. "Hell, I'm gonna try this, not because I can actually do it, but because I'm gonna do it for a great musician that we lost." Stapleton said. Watch the YouTube video below from Brandon Bunnage:
Prince passed away at his Minnesota home Thursday, April 21st, weeks after staging sold-out concerts in the Bay Area and attending a Golden State Warriors game. Born Prince Rogers Nelson, he was 57.
Stapleton has postponed his Santa Barbara visit due to losing his voice. He is expected to recover and perform in Los Angeles on the 27th as well as the 30th at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California.
