Protesters Burn Trump's Effigy, American Flag After His GOP Convention Speech

BURLINGAME (CBS SF) -- While GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump had to enter and exit the California Republican Convention through a backdoor and via a slit in a freeway fence this afternoon, anti-Trump protestors blocked the main entrance and burned not only his effigy outside, but an American flag.

Trump's speech at the convention joked about his adventure getting into the convention, held in Burlingame, which required him to be escorted "under a fence and through a field."

"That was not the easiest entrance I've ever made," Trump said. "It felt like I was crossing the border actually. I was crossing the border, but I got here."

Outside the Hyatt hotel where the convention is being held, over 100 protestors gathered with signs and chanted anti-Trump slogans. Some protestors formed a human chain, while others burned an American flag and a Trump-like pinata.

Protestors remained at the hotel even after the departure of Trump's motorcade. Dozens of law enforcement officials remained outside the Hyatt hotel as protestors dispersed.

Trump headed to San Francisco International Airport where he boarded his private plane.
