SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Die hard Prince fans have been waiting for this bittersweet moment to happen. For those not counting, May 4th marked “seven hours and thirteen days since Prince went away.” If that sounds really familiar, a very specific tribute was very much appropriate.

Lyrics to the song “Nothing Compares 2 U” which was sung by Sinead O’Connor but written by Prince starts off with “It’s been seven hours and 13 days since you took your love away,” and as of Wednesday afternoon, sadly marked that exact amount of time since the Prince’s passing on April 21st.

To honor the legendary icon, afternoon personality Jayn at San Francisco radio station Alice@97.3 played the Prince’s original version of the song at 3:07pm (Pacific Standard Time).

Minneapolis radio station The Current came up with the idea of playing Prince’s version of “Nothing Compares to U” right at that time, and invited other radio stations around the country to do the same, in order to create a nationwide tribute.

“We wanted to be part of this tribute as soon as we heard about it…” Jayn said. “Celebrating Prince with our listeners, knowing that people all over the country are all listening to this iconic song at the same time, I get goose bumps just thinking about it.”

The song made O’Connor’s career, however, she managed to change the lyric from “13 days” to “15 days.”
