Tesla Is On A Hiring Spree

NEWARK (KPIX 5) -- Dozens lined up for bragging rights to say they helped make a Tesla when the electric automaker hosted a job fair in Newark on Saturday.

The company is on a hiring spree.

"I would love to build a Tesla car," said applicant Sheena Michael. "Who wouldn't?"

"A new, great company. I feel like they are going to grow. They are the future," added Alejandro de la Cruz.

Elon Musk's company certainly is growing. KPIX 5 learned that Tesla will be leasing more than a million square feet in two--possibly three--massive storage facilities in Livermore.

At Saturday morning's job fair the company's looking for hundreds of factory workers, after pre-sales for its more affordable Model 3 exploded earlier this year.

Job applicant Russel Vicente loves to see an American factory hiring hundreds and paying above minimum wage -- $17 an hour, plus overtime and benefits.

"Making jobs for other people. That's really what America is," said Vicente.

Angelo Gamez has construction experience and now he hopes to use that to build Teslas and only Teslas.

"I like to try new things and be innovative and that's why I don't go into Ford or Honda because I don't think that's going to be the future," said Gamez. "Tesla's going to be the future."

So as Tesla zooms into the future many hope to go along for the ride.

"Hopefully, I get it," said Vicente. "That would be awesome!"
