San Jose Couple Honored After Fostering Over 80 Children

KCBS_740 SAN JOSE (KCBS) -- A San Jose family that has fostered more than 80 children over eight years is being honored by the county.

Jesus and Rosa Lopez have cared for children ranging in age from newborns, all the way up to 18.

Their newest additions are a pair of siblings.

"It's a little girl, four months old. And we have the brother – he's five years old," Jesus told KCBS.

Jesus said being foster parents is very rewarding for them.

"We have a lot of beautiful experiences with all the different kids that we have. And we still see some of the kids that come over and visiting us," Lopez said.

Jesus and Rosa were honored by Santa Clara County as Foster Parents of the Year.

Tracy Bowers with the county's social services said she would love to see 150 more homes come on board for the foster parent program.

"We don't have enough homes to match the diversity of children that come in for care in this county,"  Bowers said.
