ALAMAEDA (CBS SF) — A student died at a high school in Alameda on Tuesday, according to emergency crews.

The student was at preseason football practice at Encinal High School, located at 210 Central Ave., according to Alameda Fire Department spokesman Juan Medrano.

The student reportedly collapsed on the football field around 6:15 p.m. and was transported to Highland Hospital, where he died.

The school district did not immediately disclose whether the players were practicing in full pads at the practice.

Counselors will be present on the campus Wednesday morning.

Medrano said further details about the student, or the circumstances surrounding the student’s death, were not immediately available.
