Smash & Grab Burglars Hit Gun Store In San Carlos

SAN CARLOS (KPIX 5) -- Burglars smashed their way through the front facade of a gun shop in San Carlos Sunday morning.

The burglary put an unknown number of stolen guns on Bay Area streets after the Imbert & Smithers gun shop on El Camino Real was robbed early Sunday.

"I was told that a vehicle, a truck, drove into the gun shop and took many, many guns," Bill Haas, who runs an antique store next door to the gun shop said.

Investigating officers won't say how many guns were taken, but from the looks of the smashed glass gun cases now sitting in a truck bed outside, the burglars had their way with the inventory.

"There's more scary people with guns that shouldn't have them," Haas said.

Officers canvassed neighboring businesses hoping to find some sort of surveillance video of the crime Sunday morning.

"Our shots of the street are working on only movement and there wasn't any," Richard Grove, who runs another antique store in the area said.

As the sheriff's office and the ATF try to find the culprits, the owner of Impert & Smithers is trying to secure his business the best he can.

"If somebody would have the gall to do that, to drive a vehicle into a plate glass window, it's a little nerve-racking," Haas said.
