Oakland Man Charged With Fatal Shooting Of Muni Driver

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- An Oakland man accused of fatally shooting a San Francisco Muni driver outside a bar near San Leandro was charged Tuesday with murder and two counts of attempted murder, according to court documents.

Sophy Kong, 34, was arrested about a block from the homicide scene standing over a critically injured second victim at about 2 a.m. Saturday, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

The Alameda County District Attorney's Office has charged Kong with murder and two counts of attempted murder. In court documents prosecutors alleged that the crimes were premeditated but did not elaborate on a motive.

Kong was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Tuesday afternoon. He is being held in Santa Rita Jail without bail.

Sheriff's officials said Kong approached bus driver Sukia Jackson, 43, as he was standing with a group outside of Shooter's bar at 1500 150th Ave.

Kong allegedly shot Jackson and when the crowd scattered he chased after the second victim.

When deputies arrived, Kong was standing over the second victim lying wounded on the sidewalk outside a Burger King at 10500 E. 14th St., about a block away from Shooter's. Kong was covered in blood and holding a gun.

Jackson and the other victim were taken to a hospital. Jackson had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Another man was shot at during the altercation but wasn't hit by gunfire.

Kong was arrested and a witness identified him as the person who shot Jackson, according to the sheriff's office.
