LGBT-Supporting Trump Advocates Blame San Jose Mayor, Police For Campaign Violence
SAN JOSE (KPIX 5) -- A group of Donald Trump supporters who took a beating at a San Jose rally are fighting back against the city for not doing enough to stop it.
Juan Hernandez broke down in tears while describing the feeling of been attacked outside the Trump rally in San Jose.
"We were getting sucker punches from all angles. There was three maybe four. I remember feeling fist after fist," Hernandez said.
He said anti-Trump protesters gave him a bloody nose and black eyes, prompting him to file a police report.
Hernandez is a member of the Log Cabin Republicans, an organization that advocates for the LGBT community.
Wednesday, Log Cabin leaders from Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles came to San Jose to denounce Mayor Sam Liccardo and the San Jose Police Department for not protecting Hernandez and others.
"We've seen video on international media that shows the police just standing by as people were getting attacked," Charles Moran of the California Log Cabin Republicans.
On Monday, Mayor Liccardo denied that he gave orders to police to stand down. "The notion that there was some stand down order is ridiculous," Liccardo said.
Trump critics who also attended the rally say the candidate bears some responsibility.
"Donald Trump makes a point of coming to a city with a high immigrant population, hoping that this will happen," Shaunn Cartwright of San Jose said.
Meanwhile, three additional juvenile suspects were arrested in connection with the rally violence, police announced Wednesday.
