Woman In Wild SF Ambulance Theft Arrested Again
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A woman arrested and charged in connection with the theft of a San Francisco Fire Department ambulance earlier this month was arrested again Sunday night in connection with a Bayview District burglary, police said.
Veronica Barahona, a 37-year-old Oakland resident, was arrested Sunday night after a burglary was reported in the 1700 block of McKinnon Avenue around 10:20 p.m., according to police.
The suspect allegedly forced entry into a home through a sliding glass door and walked into a bedroom where the homeowner was sleeping.
The homeowner woke up and began screaming, causing the suspect to run out the back door, police said.
Police located the suspect, later identified as Barahona, hiding in the backyard, and arrested her on suspicion of one count of felony first-degree burglary.
The arrest was the second one for Barahona this month after a June 7 incident in which an ambulance was stolen from San Francisco's Union Square around 8 a.m. near the Ambassador Hotel at 55 Mason St.
Barahona is alleged to have driven the ambulance east on to the Bay Bridge and then exited at Treasure Island, where she lost control and crashed on the side of the road, according to police. The ambulance caught fire and police detained Barahona at the scene.
Barahona was arraigned on felony unlawful taking of a vehicle and unlawful taking of a special vehicle charges on June 9, but was granted
supervised release.
She is currently back in custody on suspicion of burglary with initial bail set at $150,000, according to jail records.
