Salinas Woman Badly Hurt In Fall From Moving SUV May Have Jumped
SOLEDAD (CBS SF) -- A 19-year-old woman suffered major injuries Sunday night after she exited the window of a vehicle as it was traveling on U.S. Highway 101 near Soledad, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Around 10:45 p.m., officers responded to Highway 101, just south of Camphora Gloria Road regarding a report of a person lying in the highway's northbound lanes, according to the CHP.
After a preliminary investigation officers determined the victim, identified as 19-year-old Jocelyn Villagrana of Salinas, was a passenger in a 2007 Cadillac Escalade that was traveling in the highway's northbound lanes at about 65 mph.
Investigators determined that Villagrana rolled down the window to vomit then fell out. Her mother also said that she has attempted suicide in the past, and was drinking alcohol Sunday night.
Officers are still trying to determine whether the incident was accidental or intentional in nature.
The occupants inside the SUV said they didn't notice she was missing until a family member in the back of the vehicle woke up, near Gonazales, according to the CHP.
The victim was taken to Natividad Medical Center with major injuries, including a detached arm, multiple lacerations and a broken leg but she is expected to survive, CHP officials said.
