Construction Worker Plunges Down Cliff In San Francisco Telegraph Hill

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A construction worker suffered "multiple traumatic injuries" when he tumbled 50 feet down a cliff on San Francisco's Telegraph Hill near the iconic Coit Tower, fire officials said.

San Francisco Fire Department Jonathan Baxter said a 911 call came in around 8 a.m. reporting the incident at 8:15 a.m. at 140 Chestnut St., located just north of the Coit Tower.

"As our crews arrived on scene they observed the subject about a good 75 to 100 feet down below 140 Chestnut," he said.

Rescue workers scaled the cliff and assisted the fallen worker. Baxter could not comment on his condition, but said the worker worker remained conscious after the fall and had "suffered multiple traumatic injuries."

Baxter said he had been secured by ropes as he worked on a netting to shore up of the cliff side at the time of the fall.
