Man Found Shot Dead In Oakland; Surveillance Images Sought

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A man was fatally shot in Oakland Thursday morning, police said.

After police received a call about a shooting and a Shotspotter activation, officers responded to the area of San Pablo Avenue and 35th Street at 4:17 a.m. Thursday and found a man in his 30s who was suffering from several gunshot wounds.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators were talking to witnesses and hoping something was captured on nearby surveillance cameras. "We're asking businesses, we're asking residents to check their video surveillance system," said police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson. "They may have captured, prior, during or after the crime."

Police weren't releasing any other information about the shooting, such as a possible motive and suspects, at this time.

Watson said so far this year, Oakland has seen 34 homicides, compared with 43 at the same time last year.
